Masonic Rings: What You Don’t Probably Know About Freemasonry
Freemasons are not what popularly known as a “secret society”. Freemasonry is considered a fraternity group having their own secret passwords and handshakes, exclusively to its members so they may know and identify one another. Over the years, there has been a social stigma about freemasonry as some kind of dark society that is influenced and bent on world domination, but this is not the case, because it is simply a fraternal brotherhood to instill faith, hope, and charity in its members. Masonic rings are signs of freemasonry membership, so much like emblems or stickers found in automobiles.
Being a member of freemason fraternity doesn’t automatically mean possessing all the admirable qualities to look for in a man. With that being said, not all good men are freemasons, and not all freemasons are good men. The fact that a freemason chooses to wear his masonic ring, probably shows he makes a conscious effort and decision to do his best to apply all the commendable virtues and qualities of freemasonry. As opposed to wearing freemasonry on a special finger, there is no such thing as “masonic ring finger”, because there are no rules wearing masonic ring on a specific finger, so freemasons are free to wear it on their little finger, ring finger, or index finger. Many are asking about the meaning for masonic rings. There is no special or deeper meaning for wearing a masonic ring, it’s simply a sign or a reminder to the wearer and to others that the man has a good reputation, and he is always willing to help people basing on what his fraternal order teach. Unfortunately, there are also men who wear masonic rings but are not freemasons themselves, taking advantage of the stereotype qualities and advantages from being seen as a mason. Thus this being said, it’s not good unfairly accusing masons as belonging to a secret society, because there are fake people or pretenders out there trying to ruin the reputation of freemasonry.
Being a true mason is proving that you’re a man of good standing, setting a high standard for yourself to live up and wearing that ring if you choose to do so. Masonic rings are regarded as purely visual signs, not possessing any masonic secret, which serves as a seal of authenticity within the brotherhood. The square and compasses are common symbols found upon the face of masonic rings, symbolizing two triangles, one pointing upward toward our Creator into the heavens, and one pointing downward, representing the earth and men.
